CGI Group Inc. (TSX: GIB.A, NYSE: GIB) is a Canadian-based information technology (IT) management and business process services (BPS) company. Founded in 1976 as Conseillers en Gestion et Informatique, CGI is the eighth largest independent firm of its kind in the world,[1] employing approximately 25,500 employees in over 100 offices in 16 countries.[2] Canada's largest IT services company, fifth largest technology company, and 83rd largest company based on revenue, CGI employs around 16,500 individuals in Canada.[3]

Since its founding, CGI has acquired more than 60 companies.[4] In 2004, the company purchased the federal civilian, state and local and commercial units of American Management Systems (AMS) for US$858 million, while CACI International Inc. bought AMS' defense and intelligence business for US$415 million.[5][4]

CGI provides services to clients in North America, Europe, and Asia in the following industries: banking, credit unions, distribution, government, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, oil and gas, retail, securities, telecommunications, and utilities. As of December 31, 2006, CGI had an annual revenue of CA$3.6 billion (US$3.1 billion) with an order backlog of CA$12.6 billion (US$10.9 billion).

Office locations include the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, India, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

CGI was ranked as the 21st most prestigious technology consulting firm by Vault's 2007 survey.[6]
