(Heart Specialist) Bangalore was arranged by WIPRO for its employees .
The transcript of the chat is given below. Useful for everyone.
Qn: What are the thumb rules for a layman to take care of his heart?
Ans:
1. Diet - Less of carbohydrate, more of protein, less oil

Ans: This is called silent attack; that is why we recommend everyone past the age of 30 to undergo routine health checkups.
Qn: Are heart diseases hereditary?
Ans: Yes
Qn: What are the ways in which the heart is stressed? What practices do you suggest to de-stress?
Ans: Change your attitude towards life. Do not look for perfection in everything in life.
Qn: Is walking better than jogging or is more intensive exercise required to keep a healthy heart?
Ans: Walking is better than jogging since jogging leads to early fatigue and injury to joints
Qn: You have done so much for the poor and needy. What has inspired you to do so?
Ans: Mother Theresa , who was my patient
Qn: Can people with low blood pressure suffer heart diseases?
Ans: Extremely rare
Qn: Does cholesterol accumulates right from an early age
(I'm currently only 22) or do you have to worry about it only after you are above 30 years of age?
Ans: Cholesterol accumulates from childhood.
Qn: How do irregular eating habits affect the heart ?

Qn: Which oil is better - groundnut, sunflower, olive?
Ans: All oils are bad .
Qn: What is the routine checkup one should go through? Is there any specific test?
Ans: Routine blood test to ensure sugar, cholesterol is ok. Check BP, Treadmill test after an echo.
Qn: What are the first aid steps to be taken on a heart attack?
Ans: Help the person into a sleeping position , place an aspirin tablet under the tongue with a sorbitrate tablet if available, and rush him to a coronary care unit since the maximum casualty takes place within the first hour.
Qn: How do you differentiate between pain caused by a heart attack and that caused due to gastric trouble?
Ans: Extremely difficult without ECG.
Qn: What is the main cause of a steep increase in heart problems amongst youngsters? I see people of about 30-40 yrs of age having heart attacks and serious heart problems.
Ans: Increased awareness has increased incidents. Also, s edentary lifestyles, smoking, junk food, lack of exercise in a country where people are genetically three times more vulnerable for heart attacks than Europeans and Americans.
Qn: Is it possible for a person to have BP outside the normal range of 120/80 and yet be perfectly healthy?
Ans: Yes.
Qn: Marriages within close relatives can lead to heart problems for the child. Is it true?
Ans : Yes, co-sanguinity leads to congenital abnormalities and you may not have a software engineer as a child
Qn: Many of us have an irregular daily routine and many a times we have to stay late nights in office. Does this affect our heart ? What precautions would you recommend?
Ans : When you are young, nature protects you against all these irregularities. However, as you grow older, respect the biological clock.
Qn: Will taking anti-hypertensive drugs cause some other complications (short / long term)?
Ans : Yes, most drugs have some side effects. However, modern anti-hypertensive drugs are extremely safe.
Qn: Will consuming more coffee/tea lead to heart attacks?
Ans : No.
Qn: Are asthma patients more prone to heart disease?
Ans : No.
Qn: How would you define junk food?
Ans : Fried food like Kentucky , McDonalds , samosas, and even masala dosas.
Qn: You mentioned that Indians are three times more vulnerable. What is the reason for this, as Europeans and Americans also eat a lot of junk food?
Ans: Every race is vulnerable to some disease and unfortunately, Indians are vulnerable for the most expensive disease.
Qn: Does consuming bananas help reduce hypertension?
Ans : No.
Qn: Can a person help himself during a heart attack (Because we see a lot of forwarded emails on this)?
Ans : Yes. Lie down comfortably and put an aspirin tablet of any description under the tongue and ask someone to take you to the nearest coronary care unit without any delay and do not wait for the ambulance since most of the time, the ambulance does not turn up.
Qn: Do, in any way, low white blood cells and low hemoglobin count lead to heart problems?
Ans : No. But it is ideal to have normal hemoglobin level to increase your exercise capacity.
Qn: Sometimes, due to the hectic schedule we are not able to exercise. So, does walking while doing daily chores at home or climbing the stairs in the house, work as a substitute for exercise?
Ans : Certainly. Avoid sitting continuously for more than half an hour and even the act of getting out of the chair and going to another chair and sitting helps a lot.
Qn: Is there a relation between heart problems and blood sugar?
Ans: Yes. A strong relationship since diabetics are more vulnerable to heart attacks than non-diabetics.
Qn: What are the things one needs to take care of after a heart operation?

Qn: Are people working on night shifts more vulnerable to heart disease when compared to day shift workers?
Ans : No.
Qn: What are the modern anti-hypertensive drugs?
Ans : There are hundreds of drugs and your doctor will chose the right combination for your problem, but my suggestion is to avoid the drugs and go for natural ways of controlling blood pressure by walk, diet to
reduce weight and changing attitudes towards lifestyles.
Qn: Does dispirin or similar headache pills increase the risk of heart attacks?
Ans : No.
Qn: Why is the rate of heart attacks more in men than in women?
Ans : Nature protects women till the age of 45.
Qn: How can one keep the heart in a good condition?
Ans : Eat a healthy diet, avoid junk food, exercise everyday, do not smoke and, go for health checkup s if you are past the age of 30 ( once in six months recommended) ....

Google searches to find alternative to coal
Googlecommitted hundreds of millions of dollars to renewable energy projects on Tuesday.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google co-founders, announced its RE<C initiative to produce electricity from renewable energy sources rather than coal.
Mr Page said: "Our goal is to produce one gigawatt of renewable energy capacity [enough to power San Francisco] that is cheaper than coal. We are optimistic this can be done in years, not decades."
The internet company said it expected to spend tens of millions of dollars in 2008 on research and development and related investments. It also anticipated investing hundreds of millions of dollars in breakthrough renewable energy projects that generate positive returns.
The Google founders were asked, during a conference call with reporters, if they were straying from their core mission.
Mr Brin said energy was already critical to Google's operations, referring to the energy-hungry data centres built by the company.
Google said it expected a pay-off of hundred of millions of dollars in the near-term.
This could be realised in energy savings and licensing of the technology that is developed. Google's move reflects growing interest in renewables in Silicon Valley. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, one of the venture capital companies behind the dotcom boom, formed a partnership with Al Gore's fund management business this month to target low-carbon energy.
More than $4bn (£1.9bn, €2.7bn) of venture capital was invested last year in environmental technologies such as renewable energy, water technologies and carbon reduction technologies.
The sector is now the biggest recipient of venture capital funds in the US.

Can Hotmail co-founder take Office online?
Whether the name and logos will raise the ire of Microsoft’s lawyers is, at this point, still unknown, although we can be pretty sure that if Microsoft doesn’t like it, we’ll hear about it pretty quickly.
Unfortunately, despite sounding quite impressive, the service isn’t actually live as yet, offering only an invitation program to sign up to a pre-release beta service, after which you’ll receive the message: “Thank you for signing up! We will contact you with an account activation mail once your account has been provisioned for”. That said, general availability is promised ‘soon’.
So, what does Live Documents offer?
According to their website, Live Documents is “how all Office applications will look like one day - a platform that marries the strengths of the desktop and the web into a synchronized solution that leverages the best of both worlds”. The document types to be supported at first are the triumvirate of a Word, Excel and PowerPoint clone.
Live Documents promises to let you access your documents on the web or on the desktop, and view and edit your documents from anywhere at any time in your browser in a rich user interface that provides the functionality and responsiveness that you expect in your familiar desktop applications.
It also promises to let you use “your existing desktop Office application (Microsoft Office currently and Open Office promised soon) as a smart client that permits offline access to your document - the next time you go online, Live Documents automatically synchronizes all changes to ensure that there is a single version of the truth”.
Bhatia is hoping to repeat his success with Hotmail a decade later, and says that: “Live Documents offers a unique perspective on Office productivity and collaboration that merges the best of two worlds - the richness and familiarity of desktop software with the collaborative capabilities of the web. It provides a reliable bridge between the online and offline worlds that consumers and businesses can count on”.
So, can Bhatia's creation break the Microsoft Office hegemony and become the next online hit? Please read onto page 2 for the conclusion...

The top global technology brand for 2007
The top global technology brand for 2007 is (drum roll, please) ... um, I'm not sure. One market research firm says Google, the other says Microsoft. This is embarrassing.
How about this: you're the tie-breaker. You're all buyers of technology products and services; which do you think is the better brand? Which one commands your loyalty and recurring business? I hear so much admiration for Google and so much vitriol toward Microsoft, it's hard to believe there's even a question here. But still, the question remains. Which one is it going to be?
Bragging rights aside, you can learn a lot from these reports. Trends are important to understand. Trends are the leading edge of change. Brand trends point to changes in consumer and corporate buying behavior.
Although the research firms had completely different criteria and methods, eight companies--Cisco Systems, Google, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Nokia, and Oracle--made the top 10 on both lists. Samsung Electronics and Sony rounded out Interbrand's top ten, while Apple and SAP adorned Millward Brown's.
Both reports cited Google and Apple as tech firms gaining the most ground. The reasons for that should be obvious to all.
Intel and Dell, on the other hand, were both seen heading in the wrong direction. Dell's decline reflects market-share losses to rivals HP and Apple, as well as a well-publicized accounting scandal and abrupt management change. As for Intel, we've definitely seen chinks in the chip giant's once-impenetrable competitive armor. Archrival AMD has gained market-share and Intel's Viiv entertainment PC brand failed to excite consumers.
Also notable was a slight reversal of Sony's multiyear brand plunge, although both reports show Samsung is now ahead of its Japanese rival.
The most revealing change, however, is all about Google. Whether you believe the Internet search advertising giant belongs in the No. 1 spot or not, just a few short years ago that name wasn't on anyone's list, long or short.
The technology world changes fast. When we see obvious signs that rapid change is afoot, it's a good idea to pay attention. I don't think any of us needed a report to tell us about this one. But it does make you wonder what name we might see in the 2010 brand report.

Google Phone
JB over at Crunchgear has the exclusive on the "upcoming" Google Phone, supposedly
set to launch in Q1 2008. His source is someone inside HTC, the company that Google's
working with to pick one of 20 models to finalize their design.
On the software side, they're going to build a special version of Google Maps (complete
with GPS), as well as have Gmail and Calendar compatibility. It's most likely going to have
Google Docs compatibility too, but that wasn't specified. What's even cooler is that
Google Talk, their free VoIP app, will be part of the suite. The OS could be Windows
Mobile 6, or it could be a Linux-based OS, which would be even more interesting.

New Nortel Enterprise boss

In an unexpected move, Nortel this week replaced its enterprise chief. After 20 years with Nortel,
Enterprise Solutions grew 23% in Q2, its fourth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Why the switch?
We just finished our strategy session, and we’re pleased with the progress, but we think there’s a lot more we can do. What we’re focused on is accelerating the progress. It’s all about accelerating the momentum that’s in place.
What do you want to do differently?
Customers are looking for a real choice. Every time we become more visible in the marketplace – either through investments in go-to-market, on product innovations, or in partnerships and key alliances -- the paybacks are coming back in a meaningful way. So what I want to do is really double down on the investments, focused on go-to-market and to continue the alliances that we’ve done in meaningful way with Microsoft, IBM and LG. And really focus on getting our message to the market much more broadly and aggressively.
Do you plan to rely more on partnerships and M&A, rather than internal development?
Partnerships are absolutely a critical piece of what we’re doing. When we look at business process intersecting with communications in the enterprise space, it’s clear to us one person can’t solve it or bring all the solutions. So that’s why we have made the major alliances like we have. We feel we can continue to grow this business and actually accelerate the growth organically. So we are continuing to make those investments. But we are also very open in looking at opportunities inorganically. So it is a combination of both.
There’s been a lot of speculation recently on Nortel’s M&A strategy, and Steve Slattery even mentioned last week that Nortel has spent the last 18 months sizing up potential acquisition targets. Are you ready to pull the trigger?
I wish I could answer that question directly. On that one, I obviously can’t speak to any specifics other than to say that the inorganic element of our growth plan is something that is important, and we’re focused on that element as much as we are the organic, but we need both.
Any specific product areas where you’re looking for the inorganic contribution?
Customers need a real choice in data. Our strength in voice is well known and well documented. We’re always looking at opportunities to build our capability for a direct relationship with key end-users while still partnering with channel partners. Anything specifically that does either or both of those is obviously attractive to us.
Top-line growth is accelerating, but what about the bottom line? Is
It is improving. We really believe we can make this an anchor business, and for us an anchor business is a business that’s growing faster than market and has double-digit operating margins. We think the opportunity exists for this business, and that's where we’re focused.
Was that a major impetus for this switch?
That was one element of it, but not the only element. The big element around it is, hey, we’re just really excited about what’s possible here and what we’ve done, and we want to accelerate it. But not just on the earnings line -- all the way down the P&L.
So you plan to increase investment while at the same time driving double-digit margins. That implies not only top-line growth but cost-cutting as well. Are you looking at a product rationalization?
This is definitely not a restructuring story; this is a growth story. We’ll always on a day-to-day basis as a normal part of business look at how we continue to tighten up our focus. But I would say that is the lesser part of the equation.
From a product perspective, what are your priorities?
Unified communications for us is a big push. Gartner recently positioned us in the leadership quadrant for unified communications, and Cisco as the challenger. We believe we have an advantage there. We’re going to continue to invest heavily in that. The other area I would say is in multimedia applications in general. If you look at our call center/contact center/interactive-voice-response products and just put them side-by-side with all the competitors, it is a very compelling value proposition that we want to continue. Lastly, the transition to [service-oriented architecture] is one that we’re committed to and will continue to push.
How do you plan to accelerate your go-to-market strategy?
We’ve made significant investments on that in terms of increasing the number of feet on the street, or sales resources globally. What we’d like to do is see how we can even do more of that. So that’s one element in terms of just how we expand our reach. Another element is, we’d like to increase our relationships with key global accounts – multibillion-dollar Fortune 100, 200 companies where we can even strengthen the relationships we have today. So we’ve put in place a global account team focused on doing that while at the same time leveraging our channel partners.
We just have an opportunity to expand our reach both in investments on feet on the street, but also getting the Nortel story out in the marketplace. We can do a much better job in terms of investments in our brand and our marketing with analysts, with conferences to really get the story out. When we do that, we’re always pleased with the result. People like The New York Times, the Social Security Administration, who’s done the largest VoIP install and chosen us vs. the obvious competitors. In the

Leaders in Commanding Heights : Bill Gates (co-founder of Microsoft)
Famous for : Being the richest man in the world, a cofounder of the software company Microsoft, and for being one of the world's most generous philanthropists.
Gates details : Born - USA October 28, 1955 Lives - United States of America
Gates was born and grew up in Seattle, Washington USA. His father, William H. Gates II was a Seattle attorney and his mother, Mary Maxwell Gates was a school teacher and chairperson of the United Way charity. Gates and his two sisters had a comfortable upbringing, with Gates being able to attend the exclusive secondary "Lakeside School".
Bill Gates started studying at Harvard University in 1973 where he met up with Paul Allen. Gates and Allen worked on a version of the programming language BASIC, that was the basis for the MITS Altair (the first microcomputer available). He did not go on to graduate from Harvard University as he left in his junior year to start what was to become the largest computer software company in the world; Microsoft Corporation.
Bill Gates and the Microsoft Corporation
"To enable people and businesses throughout the world to realize their full potential." Microsoft Mission Statement
After dropping out of Harvard Bill Gates and his partner Paul Allen set about revolutionizing the computer industry. Gates believed there should be a computer on every office desk and in every home.
In 1975 the company Micro-soft was formed, which was an abbreviation of microcomputer software. It soon became simply "Microsoft"® and went on to completely change the way people use computers.
Microsoft helped to make the computer easier to use with its developed and purchased software, and made it a commercial success. The success of Microsoft began with the MS-DOS computer operating system that Gates licensed to IBM. Gates also set about protecting the royalties that he could acquire from computer software by aggressively fighting against all forms of software piracy, effectively creating the retail software market that now exists today. This move was quite controversial at the time as it was the freedom of sharing that produced much innovation and advances in the newly forming software industry. But it was this stand against software piracy, that was to be central in the great commercial success that Microsoft went on to achieve.
Bill Gates Criticism
With his great success in the computer software industry also came many criticisms. With his ambitious and aggressive business philosophy, Gates or his Microsoft lawyers have been in and out of courtrooms fighting legal battles almost since Microsoft began.
The Microsoft monopoly sets about completely dominating every market it enters through either acquisition, aggressive business tactics or a combination of them. Many of the largest technology companies have fought legally against the actions of Microsoft, including Apple Computer, Netscape, Opera, WordPerfect, and sun Microsystems.
Bill Gates Net Worth
With an estimated wealth of $53 billion in 2006, Bill Gates is the richest man in the world and he should be starting to get used to the number spot as he has been there from the mid-ninties up until now. The famous investor Warren Buffett is gaining on Gates though with an estimated $46 billion in 2006.
Microsoft hasn't just made Bill Gates very wealthy though. According to the Forbes business magazine in 2004 Paul Allen, Microsoft cofounder was the 5th richest man in the world with an estimated $21 billion. While Bill Gates' long time friend and Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer was the 19th richest man in the world at $12.4 billion.
See more information the Bill Gates Net Worth page.
Bill Gates Philanthropy
Being the richest man in the world has also enabled Gates to create one of the world's largest charitable foundations. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has an endowment of more than $28 billion, with donations totaling more than $1 billion every year. The foundation was formed in 2000 after merging the "Gates Learning Foundation" and "William H. Gates Foundation". Their aim is to "bring innovations in health and learning to the global community".
Bill Gates continues to play a very active role in the workings of the Microsoft Company, but has handed the position of CEO over to Steve Ballmer. Gates now holds the positions of "Chairman" and "Chief Software Architect". He has started that he plans to take on fewer responsibilities at Microsoft and will eventually devote all his time to the Foundation.
In 2006, the second richest man in the world, Warren Buffett pledged to give much of his vast fortune to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Bill Gates Receives a KBE
In March 2005 William H. Gates received an "honorary" knighthood from the queen of England. Gates was bestowed with the KBE Order (Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services in reducing poverty and improving health in the developing countries of the world.
After the privately held ceremony in Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Gates commented on the recognition..
"I am humbled and delighted. I am particularly pleased that this honor helps recognize the real heroes our foundation (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) supports to improve health in poor countries. Their incredible work is helping ensure that one day all people, no matter where they are born, will have the same opportunity for a healthy life, and I'm grateful to share this honor with them."
The KBE Order of the British Empire is the second highest Order given out, but it is only an honorary knighthood as only citizens that are British or a part of the Commonwealth receive the full Order. This means that Gates does not become Sir Bill Gates.
Bill Gates lives near Lake Washington with his wife Melinda French Gates and their three children. Interests of Gates include reading, golf and playing bridge.

Sergey Brin (born August 21, 1973 in Moscow, Russia) is an American entrepreneur who co-founded Google

Sergey was born in Moscow, Russia, to a Jewish family, the son of a mathematician and economist. In 1979, when Sergey was six, his family emigrated to the United States. Brin attended grade school at Paint Branch Montessori School in Adelphi, Maryland, but he received further education at home; his father Michael Brin, a professor in the department of mathematics at the University of Maryland, nurtured his interest in mathematics and his family helped him retain his Russian language skills. In September 1990, after having attended Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Sergey enrolled in the University of Maryland, College Park to study Computer Science and Mathematics, where he received his Bachelors of Science in May 1993 with high honors. After graduating from Maryland, Sergey received a graduate fellowship from the National Science Foundation, which allowed him to study for his masters degree in Computer Science at Stanford University. Sergey received his masters degree in August 1995 ahead of schedule in the process of his Ph.D. studies. Although he is still enrolled in the Stanford doctoral program, Sergey has suspended his Ph.D. studies indefinitely while he is working at Google. Sergey also received an honorary MBA from the Instituto de Empresa.
Sergey expressed interest in the Internet very early on in his studies at Stanford. He authored and co-authored various papers on data-mining and pattern extraction. He also wrote software to ease the process of putting scientific papers often written in TeX, a text processing language, into HTML form, as well as a website for film ratings.
The defining moment for Sergey, however, was when he met future co-president of Google, Larry Page . According to Google lore, Page and Brin "were not terribly fond of each other when they first met as Stanford University graduate students in computer science in 1995."[5] They soon found a common interest: retrieving relevant information from large data sets. Together, the pair authored what is widely considered their seminal contribution, a paper entitled "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine." [6] The paper has since gone on to become the tenth most accessed scientific paper at Stanford University.
